We would be delighted if you wished to get involved and join our team of over 260 volunteers.

Volunteering with Fáilte Isteach



What it involves:

 

Volunteering on a Fáilte Isteach project involves giving two hours of your time every week to help others in your community learn conversational English.


Role Profile:


Main Tasks and Activities

  • Welcoming new students to the group, making them feel at ease
  • Attend training and learn from each other on how to deliver a conversation class
  • Bring in your own ideas and materials for conversation class
  • Lead a conversation class with a small group using the lesson plans and materials provided
  • Give feedback to the organisers on how the lessons are going
  •  

     

    Skills, Experience and Qualities required

    The main criteria for tutoring on the project is that you speak English and have a patient, friendly attitude and approach. Teaching qualifications, though welcome, are not necessary as training will be provided. The following characteristics are important:

  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Patience and perseverance
  • A commitment to equal opportunities and the value of diversity
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • The ability to guide and encourage

  • Support

     

    The volunteer will be responsible to the Coordinator of Fáilte Isteach who will provide support and guidance. Full training is provided on how to prepare and deliver a lesson before volunteering begins. Regular training and support will be available to volunteers to help develop their skills. Volunteers will also support one another, sharing ideas about what works in leading the conversation classes.
